Lingual braces are like traditional braces except the brackets and wires are placed on the interior surface of the teeth. Many patients enjoy this unique method of straightening teeth because the hardware is invisible to others.

Lingual braces are generally just as effective as traditional braces when it comes to fixing complex misalignments. An additional benefit of lingual braces is that they will not cause stains on the outside surface of the teeth. You should still practice diligent oral hygiene, but you will not have to worry about visual stains. 

It can feel unusual at first for the brackets to be on the inside of the teeth and some patients have difficulty speaking when they first get them. However, once you have your lingual braces for a few weeks they will start to feel more normal. 

Lingual braces can fix most of the same issues as traditional braces, but there are some situations where your orthodontist may suggest traditional braces instead. After a consultation, we can tell you if you’re a good candidate for lingual braces.
